The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre will be attending the Saugeen First Nation’s event from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Meanwhile, Bruce County says the Every Child Matters flag, which is flying at County locations through September, will be lowered to half-mast on September 30. The two communities will then walk from the orange sign to the Pow Wow grounds where there will be music, sharing, a welcome by the Chief, traditional ceremonies, land acknowledgement and a food offering to the ancestors.Įveryone in attendance will form a circle around the Pow Wow grounds and the non-Indigenous community will make a commitment to a new promise of allyship. From there, there will be a 1.5 km walk to the orange sign to join the Nawash Community for a moment of silence. They are asked to arrive between 9:30 and 10:15 at Purple Valley Road and McIver Road. There will be drumming and dancing, a pot luck and then a live band from 7 p.m. At 9:15 a formal ceremony will be held at the school and the new Truth and Reconciliation crosswalk will be opened at the school.Īt 11 a.m., all the students and dignitaries will make their way to the Zgaa-biig-nii-gaan Bridge for a renewal ceremony.įrom 12:30 onward, Saugeen First Nation is holding events at the Every Child Matters Sign on the First Nation to honour survivors, as well as children and youth.
